Brews on 1st – Triple Bopper

Thursday night brought Brews on 1st back to action in full force. Heading into the week, the squad found themselves at a 1-1 record with a big triple header looming. Gerou Chiropractic  was first on the clock, followed by two time champions Blue Ballers and Farmers Insurance  bringing up the rear.

Once again, in front of a near sell out crowd, the fans and players were both antsy to get the games underway.

Sell out crowd

Hoping to have a big night the boys took to the diamond on a sunny Thursday evening. However, dreams were quickly dashed as they dropped the first game 15-11 on the heel of three straight scoreless innings. Highlight of the game was a three run inside the park homer for Marcus Cook (Chach).

Game two brought on more of the first game. Cruising through the first four innings with only six total hits and 0 runs scored. I had a chance to catch up with a fan walking out after 4 scoreless and got a quote “I’m outta here. Y’all suck” – Brews on 1st fan. Capped off with an almost triple play, ultimately getting whittled down to only a double play, but still a tough scene nonetheless.

Sums up our first two games

Blue Ballers got in on the chirping too. Once saying “Put that in your blog” directed towards shortstop Brian Oldani (FloSho).

Blue Ballers

Capped off by an almost triple play turned against Brews on First by the Blue Ballers. But during the celebration a call got changed and ended up only being a double play. Still, not a great look for the fellas.

Through the first two games, it appeared it could be an ugly night for the squad. But there was still another game to be played and Brews on 1st wasn’t going to just roll over. Game three brought on a new team, Farmers Insurance

Looking for a bounce back game, the bats came alive early. The Brews on 1st had a seven run first inning thanks to seven straight hits to take a 7-2 lead. Farmers Insurance wasn’t backing down and continued to grind, eventually pushing the game back to even at 7’s through three innings.

James Tucker (Tucksauce) on the bump

On the back of a Jake Leclaire (Louie V) two run shot, and some more timely hitting from the fellas, Brews on 1st found themselves up 13-7 entering the final inning. The defense began to rear its ugly head as a couple errors led to Farmers Insurance storming all the way back to tie the game at 13.

Brock Delisle (Lesnar) found himself in a huge situation. It’s a moment you dream about as a kid. Bottom of the final inning with a runner in scoring position and a chance to walk it off. Lesnar played it to perfection, ripping a single into the outfield and bringing Phil Conrad (P) home to win the game.

Lesnar walkoff

A huge win for the fellas to stay relevant in the standings. Brews on 1st is playing under expectations as of now, but find themselves in a great spot to catch a little heat and go on a big run at the right time.

Next game – 4/11, Canton Softball Center, 6:20 and 7:30.
