Down But Not Out

After an extended break of three weeks, Brews on 1st found themselves back on the Diamond looking to pick up where they left off. Coming into the week at the top of the standings with a perfect 2-0 record, the boys were eyeing the franchises first ever 4-0 start. Standing in their way was the Garden City Brew Crew and the defending champs – Blue Ballers.

Brews on 1st back in action.

Missing Players

With Marcus Hill (Cat Hunter) at 90%, management did not want to force anything and kept him on the IL one more week. Eyeing a return next week to come in at 100%, full throttle.

Jacob Leclaire (Louie V) had prior commitments to attend Rolling Loud and was unable to play this past Thursday, breaking up the star studded left side of the infield.

Sean Clark (SC) was traveling for business and relinquished his first base duties to Marcus Cook (Chef) for the evening.

The Games

As expected after coming off a three week hiatus, the boys garnered some rust and got tagged for 7 runs in the first inning and the bats started out slow as well. Quickly finding themselves in a 17-1 deficit entering the bottom of the third.

Slowly, the bats picked up with a couple of timely doubles from Javier Guadiana (Javs), a three run homerun from Brian Oldani (FloSho) and a two run homerun from Brock Delisle (No Fly Zone). It ended up being too little too late as Brews on 1st couldn’t overcome the deficit and ultimately fell to Brew Crew 21-11.

Along with game two came some vengeance. Brews on 1st wanted to come away with a split and take some momentum in next week. Starting off with a Chef single, the boys’ bats heated up quickly as they batted around in the top of the first and put up a 7 spot.

The defense followed suit as they had two separate one, two, three innings highlighted by No Fly Zone catching every ball hit his way and FloSho gobbling up ground ball after ground ball.

FloSho gets the force out at second with Alex (Safari) covering the bag.

Entering the bottom of the seventh, Brews on 1st found themselves clinging to a 12-7 lead. Needing to get out of one more inning for the win. As the boys were flashing leather – Blue ballers went three up and three down. Allowing Brews on 1st to ultimately win 12-7.

With the much needed win in game two, the boys gained momentum and should be back at full force come next week.
