Alright, boys and girls. Have a seat and let me tell you a story about a man from Memphis. That man’s name is Dillon Brooks and I am now forever indebted to him.
Dillon Brooks plays the game of basketball for a small organization called the Memphis Grizzlies in the National Basketball Association. Last night, Brooks and the Grizzlies lost to the Golden State Warriors, but he became my favorite player in the league with one play.
The Warriors made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter to take the lead from the Grizzlies late. The game was all but over when Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins stepped to the free throw line to shoot two freebies with a 100-95 lead and only four seconds remaining.
Wiggins hit the first free throw to go up six, 101-95. He missed the second.
Brooks gets the ball, advances just past half court and heaves a 38-footer at the buzzer.
Bank. Glass. A little kiss.
The Warriors defeat the Grizzlies, 101-98. The final shot was inconsequential to the outcome of the game, but it wasn’t inconsequential to me and many others.
Grizzlies Halftime Live (+4.5) – CASHES!
Grizzlies 2H (+8.5) – CASHES!
Two bets went from losers to winners because Dillon Brooks plays until the final buzzer. That’s the kinda guy I want on my side.
And shoutout to Wiggins as well. He brought a championship to Cleveland and made this final play possible.
