Drake Drops Scary Hours 2, With Surprise Extended Play

The OVO boys are back at it again, doing what they do best, and giving us another unannounced playlist, dropping Scary Hours 2. The sequel to the first Scary Hours (which gave us the 2018 anthem “God’s Plan”, where the iconic “imagine if I never met the broskis” line littered Instagram bros photo captions), gives us another quick three song playlist to vibe to.

Featuring both Lil Baby and Rick Ross, Scary Hours 2 gives us three respectable bangers, as we wait in limbo for his next album release of Certified Lover Boy, which was allegedly supposed to drop early 2021. Certified Lover Boy will be Drake’s 6th released album, since dropping Dark Lane Demo Tapes back in 2020, as well as hit singles such as “Laugh Now, Cry Later”.

After listening to the 12 minute record, the following is my spicy take on this new release in order of least favorite to favorite:

#3 – “What’s Next” – wasn’t a huge fan of this one, where the instrumental sounds like the main menu music to a 1980s arcade game. Not much else to say.

#2 – “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” (feat Rick Ross) – another classic Drake being Drake freestyle spitting hard for an impressive six minutes, but just going on about random things (which isn’t uncommon in a freestyle, but still). To accompany his endless bars, Rick Ross adds a decent feature, where (IMO) I’ve always felt Rick Ross is better as a feature, rather than rapping on his own songs.

1 – “Wants And Needs” (feat. Lil Baby) – though the first half of the song sounds like “Popstar” by DJ Khalid, what really sold me was the hook of the song where he switches over to his iconic R&B/singing style. Not only this, but I will give credit where credit is due and will note that Lil Baby did low key go off on that track.

The take: Scary Hours 2 gives us some quick, respectable hits as we wait for the main event that is CLB, expecting to release in April. Just letting us know he’s still here and hasn’t forgot about us.
