Villanova Title Chances Likely Done

Senior guard Collin Gillespie tore his MCL in Villanova’s 72-60 win over Creighton on Wednesday and all but buried the Wildcats’ hope for a 2021 title.

Gillespie was averaging 14 points per game on 43% shooting to go along with a team-high 4.6 assists per game. CG had a Big East best 2.9 assist/turnover ratio and was the main reason why the ‘Cats were number two in the country in that category.

It sucks man. Villanova will win the conference regular season for the seventh time in eight years (2018, National Title instead). They’ll prolly win the Big East Tournament for the seventh time in eight years (2016, National Title instead). But unfortunately, I think that an Elite Eight run would be exceeding expectations this March.

Teams can’t lose a guy that important this late in the year and expect to be clicking by the tournament. That being said, if there were one coach that could make it happen, it’s Jerald Taylor Wright Jr.

P.S. I think Collin will be back next year for what seems like his 14th season on the Main Line.
