The other day I was listening to the Ed Helm’s episode of Armchair Expert on Spotify when he mentioned a movie he just got done with called ‘Coffee & Kareem’ on Netflix – it was a movie starring him as a police officer. Being a coffee guy and being from a family of police I decided to give it a watch. I didn’t hear Ed mention it during the interview if he did – but the first line in the movie was a news caster saying “It’s a beautiful afternoon in Metro Detroit”. I heard that and sat up in my chair.
Coffee & Kareem is the movie everyone from Michigan needs to watch. It’s unique take on a 80’s buddy cop movie – and it’s a classic comedy formatted time of just one and a half hours, which is the perfect length. Starring Ed Helms, Metro Detroit Officer dating a single mother of a 12 year old who acts out but is really a softy – reminds me a bit of Cartman from Southpark. It is a silly movie, not going to say it’s comedy gold or anything but it has some one liners and I love when kids in movies are cussing and doing highly inappropriate things for their age group like Good Boys (which is a great watch btw).
Though it seems like the movie was filmed in the Detroit area it was indeed filmed in Canada, proved by a google search I did while typing this. But it does feature a lot of streets, bridges and other landmarks as well as the references to our beloved sports teams.
It’s classic Helms – it’s as if Stu from Hangover was a Detroit Cop instead of a dentistCrimedawg
