Good News: We signed a veteran CB for a good deal – looking like a $21 million dollar deal for 2 years (14 guaranteed)
Bad News: Slay leaving looks inevitable
At least we have someone inside the organization publicly trying to do something about Slay leaving. Though, I’ll miss having Big Play Slay on our defense, having someone on the team this vocal about leaving can’t be a good thing. I just hope the Lions can trade him before our time runs out and he hits the open market at the end of the 2020-21 season.
I don’t know what this means for our draft either, but here is what I see happening. If Chase Young some how slips past 1 and 2, we take him with pick 3, no questions. Now, if Chase Young is taken, I’d take Okudah with pick 3 but Mel Kiper has us taking Tua. IF we take Tua, this is Stafford’s last season in Detroit right? His contract is up after the 2022 season, I’d assume we would keep Stafford this year and have Tua be his protege which goes either 1 or 2 ways. Both of which break my heart, I’m a Stafford loyalist thru and thru.
- We have Stafford until the end of the 2022 season, who knows if he is playing that long with his health but if he is, we could keep Tua as a back-up until then and we would still be on his rookie contract when Stafford’s expires.
- We trade Stafford in the off-season and Tua takes over for the 2020 season
- Stafford is okay with teaching Tua for a year and parting ways at the end of the 2020 season

I’m getting ahead of myself. Big key here is Slay is all but gone – eyes out for where we deal him and for what.
