In case you missed it, earlier this year the Jets hired Adam Gase to be their Head Coach after the Miami Dolphins (a divisional rival) fired him after he went 23-25 as a HC.
He made the above face (and more) during his opening press conference to the New York media.
Today, the Jets made an even crazier move! They fired their GM Mike Maccagnan, not just after the Free Agency frenzy where he signed Le’Veon Bell …. but they fired him after the NFL Draft! That is a crazy move.
Usually, these firings happen on Black Monday (the day after the last Sunday in the regular season). Furthermore, more recently in the NFL, teams have hired their GM and Head Coach at the same time to help them build chemistry.
The Jets are now looking for their new GM, naming Adam Gase – an Ypsilanti, Michigan native – the interim General Manager of the New York Jets. Talk about a rise to friggin’ glory. This guy went from the picture above, to being GM of a historic NFL franchise within one offseason. Incredible.
Whats even more incredible, he was on the Lions coaching staff in the early 00’s. Steve Mariucci hired him as a scouting assistant from 2003-2006. He ended up becoming the QB coach under Mike Martz in Detroit before Martz went to San Fran and Gase followed him right before the shitshow that was the 2008 season.
Good luck, New York. Looks like you’ll need it.
