The Lions head over to Chicago this weekend to play the Bears. The Lions are at a disappointing 3-5 at the midway point in the season, last in the NFC North while the Bears are sitting pretty at the top of the division at 5-3.
The Lions have shown promise this season, beating the Patriots and the Packers definitely got my hopes up but the realist in me is not very hopeful for this season. Though the NFC North is far from being clinched, I’m calling it a season for the Lions. This doesn’t mean that new coach MattyP has failed, I think the Lions have shown growth this season. The wins have looked fantastic. When the Lions can control the run game and have an offense that isn’t predictable enough that a friend of mines little brother can predict what they are going to do from the comfort of his living room couch.
The Bears are 6.5 point favorites in this game and the over/under is at 45. I’m taking the Bears to win this game 31-24. The Lions struggled last week after trading “YAC King” Golden Tate failing to score a touchdown. I think they will bounce back and make this a competitive game, but the Bears offense will be too much for the Lions D to keep up with. Tarik Cohen is having a memorable season and Jarod Davis might be able to contain him for a little while but I don’t see it happening all game. Khalil Mack is questionable and might makes his return to the field this week after missing the past two games, this would be a disaster for Matthew Stafford. The O-line couldn’t do anything last week against the Vikings D-line, (10 sacks in the game) and honestly worried about Stafford’s health if Mack plays.
Being a Lions fan, I want to say the Lions will win this game and go 5-3 in the last half of the season, (8-8 overall) but that is simply not realistic. The Lions next 8 games are – @Bears, Panthers, Bears, Rams, @Cardinals, @Bills, Vikings, @Packers. L, L, L, L, W, W, L, L. I’m taking the Lions going 5-11 this season and getting a top 10 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
For the Bears, the rest of their season looks pretty good for them. They might lose to the Rams but I don’t see them losing many more games than that. The Vikings look like a decent team but not good enough to beat the Patriots and Bears twice in a 8 game span. The Bears are probably going to break away from the rest of the division and win the North.
